About Camas Friends

We are a programmed Quaker meeting in Camas Washington and are a part of the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends. We meet every Sunday morning at 10:45am for worship in song, prayer, discussion and silence. And welcome you to visit us or contact us for more information.

We are, as our name suggests, “Friends of Jesus (John 15:14-15).”  We are a community committed to following the way of Jesus who we understand to be Lord of the cosmos. We are also a community that takes very seriously our Quaker tradition and its practices. We see living the way of Christ as being connected to and flowing out of our faith tradition. Quaker practices help us be the kind of community able to follow Jesus in a world often hostile to his life and message.

We believe in participatory worship. We believe that God moves within, speaks to, calls and loves all people and so we try to make space for each person to have a voice.  This is also why we worship in a way that gives us time to practice listening to God. We are each ministers, Christ is at the head rather than a pastor or bishop.

We also recognize that each person’s spiritual life is a journey filled with many questions, thus faith is less about being right and having everything figured out and more about learning and living out faith with fear and trembling. We try and be a non-anxious presence in our world where this can be worked out.

Camas Friends Church Purpose Statement:

To love God and love people.

Camas Friends Church Goal Statement:

To bring people to Christ,
To develop an ever-deepening
Relationship with Him, and
To meet the needs of others.

Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Vision Statement:

God would have Friends in the NWYM model, encourage, teach and facilitate the growth of deep spiritual communion with the Spirit of Christ in people of all ages.

As this spiritual communion transforms our hearts into the image of Christ, His compassion will be expressed to the lost, wounded and disenfranchised of the world.

To grow up into Christlikeness and to live out that Christlikeness in the world.

Jason is married, has 3 boys and lives with his family in Camas. He has a BA from Washington State University, and an MBA from George Fox University.

Clerk of Education: Evelyn Myers

Evelyn Myers had an interest in education from an early age, enjoying books and stories of others who came from distant places.  Fulfilling her dreams, she taught children in Sunday School and public school for 30 years.  She now serves on the Board of Education and Discipleship for Northwest Yearly Meeting.

Clerk of Stewards: Jim Goecks

I grew up in a “nominally” Christian home where we attended church sporadically.  I always considered myself a Christian, but while I was visiting the Oregon State University campus a Navigator approached me, and I invited Christ to be my savior.  After getting married to Jean and graduating from college in Claremont, California, I spent 4 years in the US Army testing out new electronics gear the Army was procuring.  We found Camas Friends Church in 1984 and have been attending ever since.  I have served mostly on the Stewardship Committee during my period with Camas Friends.

Clerk of Outreach: Al Hendrix

Al is a retired IBM Electrical Engineer with a deep interest in adult education. He has served as Adjunct Professor at several Universities and Community Colleges teaching Electronics Technology and Semiconductor Manufacturing. His hobbies include custom coffee roasting and teaching others coffee appreciation, taking motorcycle trips, and camping at the coast with friends and family. This is Al’s first attempt at Clerking a Committee within the Quaker community.

Clerk of Hospitality: Leslie Cole
