Can you believe it’s already Wednesday? The week feels like it’s moving pretty quickly.
This Sunday Colin Saxton, the superintendent of the Northwest Yearly Meeting, will be with us and speaking to us from the book of Genesis.
He told me “I want to focus on the shifting nature of Jacob’s relationship with God during the time his name is changed from Jacob to Israel.”
If you’d like to read this passage Colin mentions from Genesis, you can find it online: http://bible.us/Gen28.10.TNIV
Also see Genesis 32:22-32 (this is where Jacob’s name is changed) http://bible.us/Gen32.22.TNIV
(You can see I am trying something a little different with links to the biblical text online).
From Gen. 28 — Think about this: “When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”’ When was a time where you had a similar experience to this? What happened? What helped you realize God was there? Why do you think you were unable to perceive God in that place?
Reflect on the ways that you have had a transformative encounter with God (Gen. 32)? What have those moments been like? Could they be described as “wrestling” with God? How did come out of that time transformed?
These are some of the questions that come to my mind when I look at these texts? What about you?
I look forward to having Colin with us on Sunday and hearing his reflections on all of this.
Blessings to you on this week,
