I hope you’re week is going well. I am doing pretty well, myself. I am looking forward to the weekend though, I must say. It’s been quite the week!
As you know this Sunday we are going to have a farewell gathering for Evelyn and Joyce this Sunday. We’ll take some time to honor them and share our memories with them during our meeting for worship (so come prepared to participate in that) and we will have a potluck afterwards. We hope you’ll join us and if you can think of anyone who may not be on this list but who would surely want to be there will you make sure and invite them?
For our parable Sunday we’re going to reflect on this passage which seems fitting for what we are going through as a community:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!” (Matthew 7:24–27 NRSV)
- I wonder what part of this parable you like best?
- I wonder which part you find challenging?
- I wonder which part you think is the most important part?
- I wonder where you are in this story?
- Is what we are building with our lives more like the wise or the foolish man?
Let’s be praying for our time together this Sunday that we will be fully present and ready to participate in what God might do among us.
