Guest Speaker: John A. Wessel-McCoy

Harriet Tubman

Last Sunday, June 29th, Camas Friends Church welcomed John. A. Wessel-McCoy of The Poverty Initiative. John spoke to us about the bible, poverty and some of his work with the poor in New York City where he’s based.

John selected the above image of Harriet Tubman & Thomas Garrett side by side, as he drew part of his sermon from lessons from the Abolitionist Movement.

He also spoke on Luke 4:18:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
