Camas Friends Church

A Quaker Meeting in Camas, WA

Fresh Bread Discussions

Our Fresh Brepeacemonth2017ad discussions will resume on January 4th. We meet every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 in the pastor’s office.

To participate in the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends’ annual “Peace Month” and explore our Quaker peace testimony in greater depth, we will be discussing the “Peace Reader” provided by the NWYM.

Click HERE for the online version of the Daily Reader. Talk to Matt or Helen about obtaining a hard copy.

Click HERE for more information about Peace Month, including weekly themes and other resources.

Here’s our reading and discussion schedule. You can do one reading each day (as the reader is designed) or cram all the week’s readings into one sitting. Whatever works best for you! We will use our gathered time on Wednesday evenings to engage the previous week’s themes and topics.

WEEK DISCUSSION DATE READ PRIOR TO WEDNESDAY GATHERING
One Jan 4 Days 1-4 in Daily Reader
Two Jan 11 Days 5-11 in Daily Reader
Three Jan 18 Days 12-18 in Daily Reader
Four Jan 25 Days 19-25 in Daily Reader
Five Feb 1 Days 26-31 in Daily Reader

Following our Peace Month discussion, we will likely begin the discussion of our next book on Feb 15th. Book TBD.

Fresh Bread meets Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the Camas Friends Meeting House (in the pastor’s office).

Our most recent books include:

  • Philip Gulley’s Living the Quaker Way: Discover the Hidden Happiness in the Simple Life. We explored the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality and how these connect to contemporary issues–personal, relational, and social. Our discussion was particularly timely in light of the anticipation and aftermath of the national election.
  • Jim Wallis’s America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America. Participating in racial justice aligns with our meeting’s values. Our conversations around this book were engaging and a positive step toward such participation.

Fresh Bread Discussions are a great time to ask questions, get to know each other, and engage in spiritual formation. Hope to see you there!
