CFC Statement of 2SLGBTQIA+ Belonging
At Camas Friends Church, anyone who wishes to lovingly participate in our community belongs. It is our Love-centered, Christ-guided, Quaker-informed faith that grounds our commitment to inclusion as a community of Friends.
We—2SLGBTQIA+* Friends and allies of 2SLGBTQIA+ Friends—fully affirm our belovedness and recognize that our sexual, romantic and/or affectional orientation, gender identity and expression pose no barrier to God’s Love or to full participation in this spiritual community. We belong. All participants in this gathered body embrace and benefit from each others’ guidance, gifts, leadership, spiritual journeys, struggles, and experiences. Together, we are complete.
Our community is committed to supporting one another as each of us seeks to recognize and reconsider our biases—without compromising the safety of our 2SLGBTQIA+ members. We listen to each other when given feedback on how to be a better ally and attempt to make repairs when we’ve harmed another member. Becoming an inclusive and safe space is a journey; we are committed to that journey and its progression.
While being our authentic selves is a vital, sacred part of who we are, our gift to the community extends beyond our sexuality and gender identity. Our community is committed to celebrating the whole person and not tokenizing, harming, or burdening each other because of our identities. We are also committed to growing our active engagement in today’s world to help nurture a world into being that is more loving and equitable for every person.
Our diversity is a thing of beauty. When we welcome Love—that of God in each—within the full spectrum of sexualities, relationships, gender identities and expressions that are present within our meeting, our worship experience deepens and our community is enriched.
